Because of Christopher Fraser's wife’s on-going health problems following a major operation last year, he has not sought re-selection in South West Norfolk for the next general election. This is the only reason why Christopher has not asked to be considered. His duties as an MP have made it difficult for Christopher to spend as much time as he would wish with his wife..
Christophers parliamentary claims have nothing at all to do with his decision. He did not come into politics for personal gain, and he has already pledged that when he sells the Norfolk property against which he has claimed, Christopher will repay to the taxpayer any profit that he makes after deduction of taxes, professional fees and costs for which he has paid personally. Christopher stands by that pledge.
Christopher will continue to do his best for constituents and until the next election it is business as usual.
Christopher Fraser's Biography
Christopher was previously a Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2001. From 1998 to 2001, he served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Lord Strathclyde, Leader of the Opposition in the House of Lords.
Before entering Parliament, Christopher was Director of his own international communications company. Members of Christopher's family have lived in Norfolk for many years and he, his wife and two children have made a home in the constituency.
He was elected as Member of Parliament for South West Norfolk in May 2005.
Christopher's Experience
Christopher joined the Conservative Party as a teenager because he believes in a United Kingdom of enterprise, opportunity and choice, where we reward initiative and protect the vulnerable - where the State is there as a hand-up, not a hand-out.
Christopher believes it is the Conservative Party that has always given people that opportunity and choice, from the chance to buy their own home to the chance to buy shares; from privatisation to tax reduction; from the creation of a single European market to the overall and improvement of public services, where decisions are made closer to the people.
Christopher Fraser - Working for South West Norfolk
Christopher’s priorities are:
§ A properly funded and effective NHS, free at the point of delivery and tailored to suit local needs, as identified by local people.
§ Dignity and respect for the elderly and retired; a government that encourages people to take responsibility and plan for their retirement, while providing appropriate pensions and a safety net for those who fall on hard times; a government that moves away from means-testing and supports an end to age discrimination.
§ Opportunity and choice in education; a government that allows teachers freedom and funds to dedicate to teaching; a system that recognises that vocational as well as academic qualifications will equip young people to make their way in life.
§ Reduction in bureaucracy on small business and the burden of taxation on the economy, so as to encourage a national culture of enterprise and achievement. Governments do not create jobs – businesses do.
§ Agriculture – a government that sees farming as a great opportunity rather than as a problem, embracing both traditional practice and agricultural diversification.
§ Law & Order – an increased Police presence in our community; policies to address youth crime and the drug culture; sentencing that is tough on the criminal and sympathetic to the victim.
§ European Union – safeguards for the constitution of the United Kingdom as an independent sovereign union with the EU.
