Selection Process for Prospective Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for South West Norfolk begins
South West Norfolk Conservative Association starts its selection process to find a new candidate to represent the people of the area.
As you will be aware, our MP Christopher Fraser has decided not to seek re-adoption to stand at the next General Election because of his wife’s ill health.
We are very sorry that Christopher cannot continue to serve the people of South West Norfolk, which he has done so very well over the last four years. We were extremely lucky to find such a hard working and effective voice for our area in Christopher and he and the Association has received many requests asking him to reconsider, however the situation with his wife has not changed since the early summer and he has no option but not to seek re-adoption.
Christopher will continue to serve the people of South West Norfolk until the General Election whenever that may be called between now and June 2010.
The Association at its Executive Council meeting held on Friday 4th September agreed the timetable and process for the selection of a new candidate to become the Conservative PPC for South West Norfolk.
The vacancy was advertised during August and the Association is extremely pleased with the calibre and number of applications it has received. The selection process will now begin and will involve the Officers, Executive and the full qualifying membership of the Association in choosing the person to represent the Conservative Party at the next General Election.
Prior to the meeting on the 24th October, the Officers of the Association together with the selection panel as agreed by the Executive Council, will select candidates for the Executive Council to interview on Saturday 10th October prior to the full membership final meeting on the 24th.
The next General Election will be fought on new constituency boundaries, which includes part that was formally in North West Norfolk. Members in the part that was formally in North West Norfolk will also be involved with the selection process to choose the new candidate who will also represent them in the new South West Norfolk.
“This is a most important time for the Association as we choose a candidate who we hope will be elected to serve and represent all of us who live and work here in South West Norfolk”. - David Hills – Association Chairman.
